Irvin Marvin Dieterle, 80, of Lafayette, passed away at 12:03 am on January 17, 2022 at his residence. He was born on January 23, 1941 to Theodore and Betty Jean (Van Ostran) Dieterle.  He graduated from Lauramie High School in 1959, and later lived in Lafayette.  He married Judith (Morrison) in 1971 and was a member of St. James Lutheran Church.  Irv worked as a carpet installer for Suburban Floor for nine years and was self-employed for an additional nine years.  He felt great satisfaction upon retiring from Eli Lilly in 2001 after working there for 24 years.  Irv was adept at making things work – even if he had to invent a way – and thoroughly enjoyed home construction, rebuilding cars and playing golf.

Irv is survived by his wife, Judith, and children, Steve Dieterle, Kathryn (Ujjwal) Singh, Julie (Joe) Nobile and Jill (Steven) Dyer, as well as 13 grandchildren.

Friends may call from 12:00 pm until the time of the service at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at St. James Lutheran Church, 615 N. 8th St. Lafayette, IN 47901 with Pastor David French officiating. Burial will follow at Concord Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to St. James Lutheran Church.
