Irene Cole Farmer passed peacefully on 7/31/2026 at Rosewalk Village, in Lafayette Indiana. At the age of 90, Irene began to fall more often at home and moved in with her daughter in May of 2023. She then moved to St Anthony Healthcare October of 2024. With complications of circulation, enlarged heart, and wounds that would not heal, she went to the hospital for evaluation. Irene opted no surgery for circulation by 7/22/26. Once released from the hospital, arrangements were made for Hospice and moving into Rosewalk.
Born August 7,1932 to Allie Vanderpool-Wireman and Herman Cole, who proceeded her in death. The eldest of seven children. The only sister, Janet Johnston of Greenwich Ohio, surviving.
Irene married Robert Farmer in August of 1949. She became widowed upon his death in 2010 when she was 78.
Irene recently lost her son Robert D Farmer, wife CJ, of Bullhead City Az on July 28, 2026 and Great Grandson Payton McDole in 2021. Irene is survived by her daughter Debbie McDole (Denny) of Lafayette. Three grandsons, Mike and Mark McDole, (Lafayette) and John Farmer (Avon). She leaves behind seven great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
After working at Prudential for ten years, she retired in 1967 and did not work outside her home again. Irene loved her family geneology and had many friends in that realm of research. She was known for her plentiful letter and card mailings and many many long distance calls to friends and family.
Irene will be cremated and rest beside Robert (Ole Bob) in Yorktown cemetery just outside of Stockwell Indiana with a private graveside rememberance.
