Helen Louise Laviolette, 96, of West Lafayette, died at 1:54 a.m. Sunday, June 5, 2011, at Westminster Health Care.
Born Sept. 8, 1914, in Bloomington, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Marguerite Dickson Elliott.
She served in the Army from 1943 to 1945.
She received her bachelor?s degree from Indiana University in 1936 and her master?s from Purdue University in library science in 1966.
On Nov. 7, 1946, she married Francis A. Laviolette in Martinsville. He died Dec. 23, 1984.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Cosmopolitan Club and Purdue Womens Club and was an avid duplicate bridge player.
Surviving is a son, Dr. Robert J. Laviolette (wife: Sonnie) of Zionsville.
Also surviving are 3 grandsons, Matthew (wife: Caroline), Nicholas (wife: Melissa) and Benjamin Laviolette. Preceded in death by a son, John Laviolette; and a brother, Joseph Elliott.
Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at Soller-Baker West Lafayette Chapel 1184 Sagamore Parkway W. West Lafayette, IN 47906 with Rev. Daniel J. Berger officiating. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at Green Lawn Cemetery in Martinsville. Those wishing may contribute to the American Heart Association.

We were neighbors of your mother on Seneca Lane. She was such a delightful person and we missed her when she moved out of the neighborhood. She was the epitome of ""lady"" in my estimation. I will always remember her kindness to me.

Sorry to hear of your loss. I recall very vividly the memories of our librarian when I was in Junior High School. A very soft spoken lady who on occassion would have to get vocal with the young gentlemen in our library class. That was many years ago and I trust she holds special memories for all your family. May she rest in peace.
