Helen I. VanDeventer, 92, of West Lafayette, passed away on Friday, June 19, 2026, at home surrounded by her family. She was born October 25, 1933, in Lafayette, Indiana, to the late Walter and Gladys (Gipson) Vice. Helen attended Lafayette Jefferson High School. On November 2, 1958, she married Robert G. VanDeventer in Lafayette, and he preceded her in death on May 3, 1998.
Helen retired from Purdue University as a proud employee of Meredith Hall in West Lafayette, IN. She was a member of the Church of the Blessed Sacrament in West Lafayette, IN. Helen cherished her time spent with her family. She enjoyed her puzzles, gardening, cooking, crocheting, and collecting sweatshirts from the local Cracker Barrel gift shop.
Surviving are her children, Robin G. VanDeventer of West Lafayette, Jenifer V. (James) Mosteller of Huntersville, North Carolina, Mark A. VanDeventer, Crawfordsville, IN, and Gregg J. (Evelyn Siefers) VanDeventer, Crawfordsville, Indiana. Helen had several grandchildren and great grandchildren: Taylor Paige VanDeventer of Lafayette, IN, Gabrielle (Lauren) Schott of Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Adriana Schott of Tubingen, Germany, Nicholas VanDeventer of West Lafayette, Marissa (Brady) Turner, Abigail (Brennen) Berger of Carmel, IN, Alexis VanDeventer of Lafayette, IN. Helen’s great grandchildren: Payten VanDeventer, Amara Turner, Able Turner, Atticus Berger, and Karter.
Helen was preceded in death by her twin sons, Robert G. and Jerome D. Vandeventer; and siblings, Franklin Vice, Thurman D. Vice, Virgil Vice, Danald Vice, Everett Vyse, and Wanda J. Vice.
Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. until the time of the service at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at Soller-Baker West Lafayette Chapel, 1184 Sagamore Parkway West, West Lafayette, with Father David Buckles officiating. Entombment will be at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens in West Lafayette.
