Helen Faye (McVey) Stanifer, 83, of Greenwood, passed away at 12:20 am, Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation Center SouthPointe in Indianapolis.
She was born October 22, 1933 in Tazewell, TN to the late Claude and Juanita (Roark) McVey. She attended school in Tazewell, TN. She married Mr. Beverly Hugh Stanifer on July 24, 1953, he preceded her in death on March 30, 1987. She worked at Purdue in the Custodial Maintenance Dept. She retired in 1981.
Helen loved watching birds, her favorite of which was the cardinal. She enjoyed working in her flower garden and in earlier years she loved to drive the car. Above all, Helen cherished and loved her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her 5 children, Sharon Kay McFadden of Springlake, NC, Gary Lynn Stanifer of Lafayette, Larry Dean (Galya) Stanifer of Greenwood, Brenda Fay (Jerry) Post of Bluffton, SC, and Beverly Ann (Perry) Williams of Battleground; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.
Along with her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Rodney Hugh Stanifer in 1966 and her brother Paul McVey in 2016.
Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm, Sunday, March 26, 2017 at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd.Funeral service, 10:00 am, Monday, March 27, 2017 at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel. Interment will follow at the Indiana Veterans Home Cemetery where she will be laid to rest beside her husband.
