Harry H. Hirschl, 96, of West Lafayette, Indiana departed this life on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, in Westminster Village. A memorial service will be held at Temple Israel on Sunday, August 7, 2022, at 1:30 pm with Rabbi Adam Bellows officiating. His body was cremated and interred at the Temple Israel Cemetery.
Harry was born in St. Louis, Missouri to Harry Hirschl and Delphine (Hamel) Hirschl on 18 January 1926, their first child. His mother and father lived in Washington, Missouri where he went to school, graduating from Washington High School in 1944. In 1944 he enrolled at Purdue University and was graduated in 1947 with a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering and sold corncob pipes in Washington the family business, Hirschl & Bendheim. In 1953 Harry married Patricia Browne; to that marriage three children were born; Thomas Andrew, Meta Chaya and Benjamin Leo.
In 1956 Harry left H&B and moved with his family to West Lafayette, Indiana where he was employed by Purdue University as an administrator. At Purdue he was promoted to several positions, ending as Director of Administrative Data Processing Center, ADPC; this organization provided computing and information services to many organizations. The central organizations were Student Services and Business Services, each with many departments. In addition, ADPC provided computer and information services to University Development (fundraising), Purdue Alumni Association, the State Chemist and Purdue Resident Halls. Harry retired from ADPC in 1986.
In 1977, Harry (a Protestant) and Patricia (a Catholic) converted to Reform Judaism. In 2000 Harry and Patricia were divorced. After retiring from Purdue, Harry became active in Jewish activities and organizations: president and treasurer of Temple Israel, Chairman of Temple Israel Cemetery Committee; and president of the Jewish Federation of Greater Lafayette.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Richard. His children survive him plus 2 spouses, 12 grandchildren, 4 spouses of grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
