Harold Wayne Carmichael, 91, passed away Friday, April 25, 2014. Harold was born July 18, 1922, to Harley and Retha (Rudolph) Carmichael of Columbus, IN. He owned and operated Carmichael & Thomas Grocery Store in Ogilville, IN, for many years before becoming a steel buyer for Arvin Industries. He served as Ohio Township trustee and was a member of the Bartholomew Consolidated School Board. Harold has resided with his wife in Lafayette, IN at Rosewalk Commons for the past year. Harold was a member of Pikes Peak Church of Christ in Brown County, IN and more recently Lafayette Church of Christ. As a young man, Harold served in the army as a morse code radio operator. When he returned from the war, he married Lola Foreman, his wife of 66 years. Together they raised one daughter, Gail Povaleri (Joe) of Lafayette. Later they were blessed with a granddaughter, Tara Hines (Derek) and two great-grandsons, Damon and Bennett Hines, all of Lafayette. Harold is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Imogene Thomas. He is survived by his wife and one sister, Joann Coles of Columbus, IN, as well as several nieces and nephews. Harold lovingly cared for his wife for many years and will be fondly remembered by his family as a loving husband, father, and grandfather, but most of all as a man who loved God first and sought to lead his family and friends by example. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 30, 2014, from 1:30-3:30 pm at Soller-Baker Funeral Home,400 Twyckenham Blvd., Lafayette. It will be followed by a funeral service at 3:30 pm, with Gary Coles and Alan Yeater officiating. Harold will be laid to rest at Garland Brook Cemetery in Columbus, IN, with a military graveside service at 2:00 pm on Thursday, May 1, 2014.
