Gwendolyn L. Buckles

Gwendolyn L. Buckles, 86, of West Lafayette, died at 4:15 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2010, at Clarian Arnett Hospital.
Born Sept. 10, 1924, in Lafayette, she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Maude Carder Buckles.
Ms. Buckles enjoyed watching movies and putting together photo albums.
Surviving are a daughter, Sherrill Bodine (husband: John) of Glencoe, Ill.; a brother, Edward Buckles, and a sister, Marjorie Strong, both of Lafayette.
Also surviving are 4 grandchildren, Heidi Maksimovic, Alan Bodine (wife: Nora), Michael Bodine (wife: Jolene) and Kathryn Huff (husband: Matthew); and 12 great-grandchildren, Olivia, Mathew, Kyle, Andrew, Michael, Ryan, Makayla, John, Skye, Greyson, Connor and Kellen. Gwendolyn was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Buckles.
Visitation will be 1 hour prior to an 11 a.m. service Monday, Sept. 20, 2010, at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., Lafayette, IN 47909, the Rev. Dr. Clayton Kendall officiating. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Park.

You have my deepest sympathies in the loss of your mother. Expected or unexpected, it is never an easy time.
Seeing her in the paper certainly jogged my memories back to grade school & high school days. My thoughts are with you and your family.

Your mother was always friendly and smiling when we were around her. As I recall, she always maintained an innocence that was charming. I know that was not always the case for you, but you were her gift, her legacy. I am thankful that I knew her.
