Gregory A. Goldsmith, 77, died Dec. 18 in West Lafayette, Ind. Greg was born in Robinson, Ill., on March 19, 1946, to Albert F. and Evelyn Armstrong Goldsmith. He grew up in Illinois, Indiana and Ohio, graduating from Findlay (Ohio) High School.
He studied at Miami University in Ohio before enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1966. After his service, he attended Kent State University, graduating in 1972 with a degree in journalism.
He married Rae Morrow in Muncie, Ind., on March 31, 1984. They raised a son, Jess, and lived in Indiana, Michigan, Kentucky, Maryland and Illinois before returning to Indiana from Carbondale, Ill., in 2021 to be near family.
Greg was a reporter and editor for newspapers in Ohio, Indiana and Michigan, including the Muncie (Ind.) Evening Press. He taught journalism courses at two universities and was a free-lance editor of academic journals. His short stories appeared in Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazine.
Greg was also a camper, hiker and gardener; a student of early U.S. history; and a fan of the Chicago Cubs. He was active with the Union Hill Homeowners Association in Carbondale and was proud to have served with a veterans’ group that washed the Vietnam Veterans Memorial wall in Washington, D.C.
He is survived by his wife, Rae Morrow Goldsmith; son Jesse Morrow Goldsmith (Mary Ardery); and grandson Arthur Ardery Goldsmith, all of West Lafayette.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jeffrey Goldsmith, sisters Katie and Julie Goldsmith, and an adopted son, Thomas Goldsmith.
