Gordon E. Mattox, 87, of Buck Creek, passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at Franciscan Health East.
He was born October 29, 1935, in Lafayette, to the late Clarence and Juanita (Whiteside) Mattox.
Gordon attended Lafayette Jefferson High School.
On January 10, 1958, he married Judith Kay in Lafayette, she preceded him in death on August 4, 1988.
Gordon worked many jobs in his early years and bar tended at the Kooler Keg for six years, along with four years of working at Vend-O-Mat Enterprise. He started working at Anheuser Busch in 1971 and retired as a boiler operator for A.E. Staley after 27 years. In his later years after retirement Gordon worked part-time at Enterprise Car Rental and Payless Super Market.
He was a member of Lafayette Kroozers Car Club and the Uptowners Club. Gordon loved cars, motorcycles and all type of racing. He enjoyed fishing, shooting guns, bowling, pitching horseshoes, and playing softball.
Gordon’s happiest moments were the times he spent with his family which he dearly loved. He was young at heart and was a very caring person that always put others before himself. He never knew a stranger.
Surviving are son, Jeffery (Ronda) Mattox of Lafayette, daughter, Kelly (Brad) Oehler of Bloomington, IL and son, Gregory (Kim) Mattox of Lafayette. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Megan Phillips, Ryan Oehler, Jaden Mattox, Jessica Mattox, Josh Wilken, Amber Harmon, and eight great grandchildren.
Gordon was preceded in death by an infant brother and brother Clarence Mattox, and two sisters, Patricia Lytle and Marsha Pettay as well as a good friend Angie Jackson and his Cat named Cow.
A celebration of Gordons life will be held from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at the Uptowners Club, 3012 Barton Beach Rd. Lafayette.
Memorial contributions may be made in Gordon’s memory to the Uptowners Club.
