Glen Leroy Stockment, 88, of West Lafayette, Ind. was surrounded by his loving family when he passed away at his home March 19, 2023. He was born Jan. 13, 1935, in Remington, Ind. to the late John and Lena Stockment.
Glen will be remembered for his lovingness, faith, charity, humor, classiness, hospitality, stubbornness and wisdom. His hard work and savvy business decisions set the foundation for his family’s success and his welcoming demeanor made everyone fond of him. He enjoyed flying his plane, sailing, playing his saxophone, traveling and riding his motorcycles.
Glen married Nita Stockment Feb. 24, 1962, in Wolcott, Ind. They shared 59 years together. In Glen’s words, “She was the wind beneath my wings.” His daughters Lisa Stockment and Susan Sizemore, and his grandsons Tanner and Logan Sizemore were the light of his life.
Glen graduated from Remington High School in 1952. He then attended Indiana Business College. While waiting to be drafted into the Army, he and his friend Don Smith started a dance band called the Starlighters. He was eventually drafted into the Army, where he served for two years. When he returned home, he began his farming career. He farmed from 1960 until his retirement in 1998. Alongside a successful farming career, Glen was a successful real estate entrepreneur. Unlike most landlord-tenant relationships, Glen’s tenants very much looked forward to seeing him. His love of trees and meeting new people prompted him to start Mr. Tree Man, a tree landscaping business, in 2002. Together, he and Nita ran Mr. Tree Man until 2014.
Glen was an active member of the Remington Presbyterian Church, singing in the choir until the church closed in 2002. He then attended Covenant Church in West Lafayette. Glen was also a member of Masonic Lodge 351 and was elected by the Scottish Rite Supreme Council to receive the 33rd degree.
Left to cherish Glen’s memory are his daughter Susan Sizemore of Battle Ground, Ind. and grandsons Tanner and Logan Sizemore of Battle Ground, Ind. Preceding Glen in death were his wife Nita Stockment, daughter Lisa Stockment, parents John and Lena Stockment, brothers Don, Randy and Lowell Stockment and sisters Jean Alvis and Marge Hageman.
Visitation will be Sunday, March 26, 2023, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Soller-Baker West Lafayette Chapel, 1184 Sagamore Parkway West, West Lafayette.
