Gladys Marie Kling

Gladys Marie Kling, 83, of West Lafayette, died at 3:55 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, at University Place in West Lafayette. Formerly from Cincinnati, Ohio, she moved to the Greater Lafayette area in 1999.
Born Aug. 5, 1926, in Reading, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Joseph F. and Marie O. Proud Segrist Sr.
Upon graduating from Littleford-Nelson Business College, she worked at Tool Steel Gear and Pinion Co. of Cincinnati until marrying Charles W. Kling on Nov. 22, 1947. He preceded her in death on April 12, 1998.
As a homemaker, she enjoyed decorating, reading, raising and tending flowers, and a challenging game of cards.
Surviving are a daughter, Pamela Kling Peroutky (husband: Tom) of Lafayette; and a brother, Harley Segrist of Coral Gables, Fla.
Also surviving are 2 granddaughters, Jessica Peroutky and Andrea Peroutky Mikuta. Gladys was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Robert, John, Jerome and Joseph Segrist Jr.
Visitation 1 hour prior to an 11 a.m. Funeral Mass on Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, with Fr. Daniel Gartland officiating. A private family burial will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Cincinnati, following services in Sharonville, Ohio. The family would like to express their deepest respect and gratitude to all the staff of University Place who so lovingly cared for Gladys during the last 17 months of her life. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute to St. Lawrence Elementary School, 1902 Meharry St., Lafayette, IN 47904.

I will always remember Gladys! It was a pleasure taking care of her at University Place. She and I have so many memories with all those pills that she hated to take. The long talks we had while trying to get her medication down her will never be forgotten. She was a lady full of wisdom! I learned to never challenge her on a game of cards.. because she was always right!
