Gerald “Jerry” L. Aiken, 79, of Battle Ground passed away with his family at his side on Tuesday February 19, 2013 at St. Anthony Health Care. He was born June 15, 1933, in Cutler, to the late Guy and Cora Cunningham Aiken. Jerry graduated from Cutler High School in 1951 and served in the United States Army from 1954-1955. He married Charlotte Cassell in Cutler on June 7 1953 and they had sons Clark and Chris. They divorced and he later married Norma Roberts and they enjoyed spending time at the lake house with the boys and they divorced after several years. Jerry worked as a Barber in Kokomo for a short time before coming to Lafayette and working at the Fowler Hotel Barber shop. Jerry then owned and operated the Lahr Barber Shop in the Lahr Hotel and in 1968 he opened Jerry's Men's Hairstyling in Downtown Lafayette which he operated until 1986. Mr. Aiken then worked for the Purdue Athletic Department for 10 years until retiring 1996 and moving to Florida where he lived for 14 years. These were the most enjoyable years of his life. He was a 50 year member and past Master of Masonic Lodge #311 in Cutler, Indiana. Jerry was also a member of the American Legion Post #11 and enjoyed boating, water sports and cars. His boys were the joy of his life. Surviving are his sons Clark Aiken of Battle Ground, Chris Aiken wife Jani of Missouri City, TX and grandsons Aaron and Joel Aiken. Also surviving is a brother Clayton Hutson of Cutler. Jerry was preceded in death by brother Lester Aiken and a sister Betty Lay. A Celebration of Jerry's life will be from 1-3 PM Saturday, March 16th at the Tippecanoe Shrine Club, 3024 State Road 25 N, Lafayette.
