Francis “Fritz” E. Vogel, 90, of Lafayette, IN, passed away peacefully on January 27th, 2024, after a brief illness. Francis was born on September 23, 1933, to the late Joseph and Leona (Glotzbach) Vogel in Remington, IN.
He married Jane J. Nufer on April 12th, 1958, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Winamac, Indiana. They celebrated their 65th Anniversary together this past April.
Francis graduated from Wolcott High School in 1951. He then served in the US Army from 1952 to 1954 before moving to Lafayette. He worked at Fairfield Manufacturing from 1957 to 1994, starting in the cage and then retiring as Data Processing Manager after 37 years. He then worked at Enterprise Rent-A-Car for an additional 20 years before retiring completely at the age of 83.
Francis was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church. In his earlier years, he was actively involved with the Boy Scouts of America and Knights of Columbus. In his later years, he enjoyed watching the Cubs, cheering on the Boilermakers, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Francis was also a longtime friend of Bill W.
Francis was predeceased by his parents, two brothers Don Vogel and Bob Vogel, and one sister Sister Joseph Ann OSF (JoEtta) Vogel.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years Jane; two sons Mike (Lisbeth) Vogel of Evansville and Joe (Vicki) Vogel of Lafayette; three daughters Jody Dalton of Indianapolis, Sister John Paul Marie PCC (LeAnn) Vogel of Belleville, IL, and Maggie Vogel of Plymouth; eight grandchildren Sam Vogel of Milwaukee, WI, Emily Vogel of Evansville, Katie Vogel of Indianapolis, Clare Vogel of Evansville, John Vogel of Evansville, Tiffany (Josh) Agee of New Palestine, Kayla (Trent) Hagerty of Zionsville, and Cole (Kat) Dalton of Indianapolis; three step grandsons Michael Jordan of Bremen, Robert Jordan of Lafayette, and Tim Jordan of Evansville; and several great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are one brother Leo (Lisa) Vogel of St. Charles, MO; one sister Marilyn Klink of Zionsville; one sister-in-law Helen Vogel of Indianapolis.
Visiting hours will be from 5:00 to 7:00 on Thursday, February 1st, 2024, at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel followed by the rosary. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am on Friday, February 2nd, 2024, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church with graveside services to follow.
