Evelyn L. McCain

Evelyn Lucille (Spurrell) McCain, 77, of Lafayette, passed away at 11:40 am, Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at St. Elizabeth Central Hospital as a result of complications from an accident on August 31, 2011.

She was born July 21, 1934 to the late Nellie and Henry Spurrell in Ottawa, IL. Evelyn grew up in Seneca, IL then moved with her family to West Lafayette, IN when she was 15. She graduated from Klondike High School in 1952 then attended Purdue University for two years.

Evelyn worked as an office manager at Snyder LaBaw Insurance Agency from 1956-1960 and 1964-1996.

On June 8, 1958, she married Samuel F. McCain at St. James Lutheran Church; he preceded her in death on December 27, 1996.

She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Ladies Auxiliary Fraternal Order of Eagles, and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Surviving is her son, Thomas (wife ? Kristen ) McCain, and her two grandchildren Jack and Abby McCain all of Lafayette. She is also survived by many, many friends who were her chosen family including Carolyn Martin, Betty and Joe Dano, and Carolyn and Willy Hudelson.
Evelyn loved spending time with her family and friends especially attending the activities of her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed but forever remembered.
Her family would like to thank all of her friends and caregivers who loved and supported her during this journey since her accident.
Visitation will be Thursday 5-8 pm at Soller-Baker Funeral Home, 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Funeral Services will be Friday, January 13, 10:00 am at Soller-Baker Funeral Home with Pastor French officiating. Interment to follow at St. Mary?s Cemetery, Lafayette. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. James Lutheran School.
