Emogene “Emma” M. Putnam

Emogene “Emma” Putnam, 92, of West Lafayette, passed away on Monday, April 10, 2023 at Mulberry Health and Retirement Community.  She was born September 16, 1930, in Keyser, WV, to the late Homer and Gertrude (Umstot) Ferrell.

Emma graduated from Bruce High School, Westernport, MD and Union Memorial Hospital Nursing School in Baltimore, MD.  On June 14, 1952, she married Calvin R. Putnam in Westernport, MD and he preceded her in death in April of 2008.   Emma enjoyed knitting, reading, drawing, painting and spending time with her beloved Yorkie “Mia.”

Surviving are her children Bryan F. Putnam of West Lafayette, James E. (Janet) Putnam of Knightstown, Vicky L. (Dusk) Szczepaniak of Delphi, grandchildren Sonya (Nathan) Swigart of Greencastle, Valerie (Sean) Kirkwood of Portage, MI, Jason Putnam of Los Angeles, CA, Mary Putnam of Indianapolis, Candace Putnam of West Lafayette, Rachel (Joey) Heindl of Spiceland, great-grandchildren Zoey and Calvin Kirkwood.  Also surviving is her sister Shirley Warnick of Swanton, MD.

A private service will be held.  Entombment will be at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens in West Lafayette.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
