Emily was born January 11, 1976 in Coatesville to Gary W. and Shari K. Hunteman. She studied at North Putnam High School (1994) and DePauw University (1998, B.A. English, cum laude). She moved to West Lafayette into a dedicated, long tenure at Purdue University, rising to achieve the titles Senior Editor at Purdue Marketing and Media (1998-2011) and Senior Research Analyst at Purdue For Life Foundation (2011-24). In addition to her unstoppable career and academic pursuits, her wide-ranging talent and interests included a voracious hunger to read (classic and new literature, Jane Austin re-reads); to research, edit and ‘do the work’; music history, school band and choirs, and listening to music in most genres (especially classical, opera, and popular 80’s era); to sing karaoke anytime; tap and dance workouts; training and running 5k and duathlon races; hikes and celery bog walks; drawing, art and museums; PU Convocations, classical and rock concerts (especially Phoenix); theater, musicals and art movies; Indian and other world cuisines and cultures; domestic and quiet time alone and with hubby; Scrabble and daily crosswords; surviving long in-laws calls; being a cool aunt to all her nieces and nephews; travel to mountains, beaches and cities in the U.S., Europe and Mexico; and being about inclusion, peace and the positive in all environments.
In 2008, Emily met her soulmate Michael Ulrich in his café, got engaged in the Rocky Mountains, and wed on June 30, 2012 in 103* heat at Moses Fowler House. They shared a devoted union for another 11 years until parted in her death.
Emily’s beautiful spirit was grounded in being kind, sensitive, open and honest, present, committed and loving to others.
