Eloine “Loni” Garwood, 93, of Lafayette, Indiana passed peacefully on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at Saint Mary Healthcare Center. Loni was born June 29,1929 on the family farm at Valparaiso, Nebraska, to Max and Abigual Lawton. She was the youngest of six children. She was proceeded in death by her parents and her five older siblings, sister Julia Lisher, brother Maurice Lawton, brother Merle Lawton, brother Lyle Lawton, and sister Carol Lawton.
Loni married Vernon Garwood in January 1953 in Lincoln, Nebraska. Six children were born from this union. She earned her BA from Purdue University and subsequently worked as an Internal Auditor for banks in Lafayette, Grand Rapids, Michigan and Denver, Colorado. After retiring, she moved to Tucson, Arizona where she was very active in her community living life to the fullest until returning to Indiana in 2018 to be closer to family.
Loni is survived by sister-in-law, Millie Lawton of Laramie, Wyoming; son, Doug Garwood (Cindy) of Lafayette, Indiana; daughter, Laurie Garwood (Stuart Kutz) of Niwot, Colorado; son, Brad Garwood (Stephanie) of Brownsburg, Indiana; daughter, Jennifer Whikehart (Doug) of Croton-on-Hudson, New York; son, Blaine Garwood of Grand Junction, Colorado; daughter, Amy Garwood (Erik Falck-Pedersen) of Dobbs Ferry, New York; grandchildren Dawn Smith, Chloe Garwood, Taylor Garwood, Salem Garwood, Nathan Garwood, Corey Garwood (Erin), Katie Laney (Robert), Caleb Garwood (Julie), Samantha Garwood (Jacob Nickles), Jacob Garwood (Johanna Migi Lim), Grete Falck-Pedersen (Daniel Grande), Silje Falck-Pedersen, Lieve Falck-Pedersen (Yusuf Kapadia); and great grandchildren Andrew Garwood, Abigail Garwood, Robby Laney, Austin Laney, and Theodore Garwood.
The family wishes to thank Loni’s caregivers from St. Mary Healthcare Center, and Franciscan Hospice Care for their faithful support and compassionate care over the last years and months of her life. As per Loni’s request there will be no services at this time.
