A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…
Edward W. Gick II left his family to join the force. He passed away on Monday, May 20, 2024 in the arms of his loving wife, Regina “Micky” Gick.
Born June 28, 1968 in Lafayette to Henrietta Gick and the late Edward W. Gick I. He was a dual-service veteran of the United States Navy and the United States Air Force from 1986-1994. On January 7, 1997, Ed received one of the greatest joys of his life. Flying to Las Vegas and marrying his smokin’ hot wife, Micky Plante.
Dad was a hands-on man. He displayed his love through acts of service and did not know the meaning of the word inconvenience. Ed wouldn’t only give you the shirt off his back, he’d also make you a bench to rest on. He was a craftsman whose greatest joy was passing on his vast knowledge to his grandchildren. Equipped with the patience of a true Jedi and 55 years of experience, he even taught his wife how to use a lathe… keeping her from breaking his tools is another story.
Dad was happiest when camping and fishing, with his three pups Charlie, Sasha, and Roger Roger. As well as spending time with family, like Warren Hitze (cousin & BFF), Mike and Karen Belongia, the ornery Laskrin family, and Chris and Gracie Rivas (if you talked to dad, he probably told you about Chris’ tacos.) If you can think of an animal; Ed and Micky have probably called it family. Whatever his devoting, annoying wife wanted he said “no.” Then he showed up a little while later with something barking or clucking from the backseat. An avid deer hunter prior to his marriage, Ed gave it all up when Micky said “don’t kill the Bambies!” But that was dad. His joy came from bringing joy to those he loved.
Alongside his wife, Ed is survived by his children Matt & Randee Treida (Westpoint, IN), Zach Gaither (Bonita, FL), Andrew Gick (Lafayette, IN), Robert & Clarissa Gaither (Ambia, IN), and Edward W. Gick III & wife Carlie (Russiaville, IN.) Now Micky would like you to know all of his grandchildren, who Ed loved more than the rest: Elianna, George, Emma, Nyle, Chandra, Cailee, Roland, Colton, Jasmine, Gracie, Ben, and Jojo. Also surviving dad are his brothers and sisters, George & Dorthy, Tina, Lisa & Ron, and David & Janel, as well as his mother, Henrietta Gick. Dad also has many surviving nieces and nephews – we’ve got a BIG family.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that memorial contributions in Edward’s name be given to: Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Mary T. Klinker Veterans Resource Center, The Fallen Outdoors, or Westpoint Fire and Rescue.
A Celebration of Life with full military honors will be held at Ed and Micky’s home in Westpoint on Saturday, June 8, 2024, beginning at 11:00 am. If attending, please wear a T-shirt with a pocket and baseball hat, in honor of dad.
