Our family sends our deepest condolences to Dustin’s family and friends. We are so grateful for Dustin and the joy he brought through basketball. He was patient and kind to us all, he was joyful to be around, and his love for the game and his players was so visible on and off the court. We are so sorry for the family and close friends and all of the children who will mourn his loss. We were blessed to have known him and thankful our son played for him. With prayers for all and may Dustin rest in peace. Cheryl Ankney

I am so sorry to hear of Dustin's passing. No parent should have to live through the loss of 2 children. I didn't know Dustin well but have always heard great things about him from his players and players parents. Prayers for the family.

Dustin and I worked together at Legacy Courts. As much as he was about his business, he was just a ready to help me understand that business and make sure I had what I needed to be successful in my role. We shared A LOT of laughs and good-natured trash talking, and what struck me the most was his generous spirit. He genuinely and authentically cared for kids and wanted everyone to have access to the beautiful game of basketball. I truly believe it pained him if a kid couldn’t get to play. He was demanding of the players in his program because he loved them and wanted them to maximize their potential and be good teammates. The team took priority and you played your role. I remember telling him my wife and I were expecting our son, and the first thing he said was “Congrats man! Indiana Ice got dibs on him!” I would’ve loved for him to coach my kid. The second memory of how thoughtful and generous Dustin was is when after I left Legacy Courts, we were catching up over text one day and he told me to come thru, he had something for me. I thought maybe he was going to hook me up with an Ice hoodie or something like that. Instead, much to my astonished surprise, he gave me a pair of brand new Air Jordan V in my favorite color way because he remembered a conversation we had two years prior. Two years! That was Dustin. We moved back home to Texas almost two years ago, and I’m sad I won’t be able to send him videos of my son playing basketball. I’m sad I won’t be able to swing by Legacy and see him when we visit our Indiana family. I’m going to miss my friend. Rest easy, bud.
