Neela lived an extraordinary life. She loved to meet people everywhere she went. She never left a place without turning a stranger into a new lifelong friend. She was always cheering people on with her enthusiasm and zest for life, her sense of humor and her warmth.
After graduating from Grant Medical College in 1960, she and her husband lived in Dar-Es-Salam, Tanzania; London, England and Toronto, Canada before making their home in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for over 50 years. She worked at the VA hospital in Milwaukee for 30 years as a pathologist and microbiologist.
She retired from medicine to focus on her art – both paint and literary. She published many books; both fiction and non-fiction and her art is loved throughout Milwaukee and West Lafayette.
Across the many years, Neela and Kumud experienced the world through their love of travel. Together they took on adventures to always see more and learn more. They have many beautiful stories of their travels that both loved to regale.
Most importantly, Neela will be remembered as the glue that has held family and friends together for decades. She has maintained friendships across a lifetime, from kindergarten to medical school and a vibrant Milwaukee community, Neela constantly added friends to an ever-expanding circle.
For her family, she has been a constant source of strength and advice. From her children to her numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and brothers, she has always encouraged everyone to achieve and become the best version of themselves.
Neela will be deeply missed by her husband Kumud and her two children, Ketan and Meera, as well as all the relatives and friends she has deeply and personally touched over her extraordinary 89 years.
