Hi, I am a friend of John’s from our involvement as Board Members of Elizabeth Gregory Home, a program for Homeless Women housed within the church that he attended in Seattle. We hit it off right away and he always brought some beautiful flowers for me from his yard. We often got together for lunch at Mamma Molina’s, a restaurant near University Village. He was a kind and loving man in every way. He was always positive in spite of health issues he may have had. When he didn’t send me a birthday card a week ago I knew something was wrong. He told me some stories of his past and more recent relationships. He was a wonderful human being and I will always smile a shed a tear when I think of him. I hope we meet again.

Many many memories John, all happy, of our time together in New Zealand, America, England, and Scotland 'Seeking and Sharing' as is the motto of the International Plant Propagator's Society - plus just having FUN when Ian and I stayed with you and your flamingos at Seattle.

John aka grandpa John was like a father to me and a grandfather to my kids. I was his personal trainer for many years. We shared countless laughs and even some tears. This loss is profound. He will be greatly missed but we know he is in a better place reunited with his mother and father once again.
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

Jeanette (Wott) Liebold Ricker left a message on September 7, 2021:
I known cousin John since childhood. We became good friends in adulthood with the aid of the Internet. John's parents would have been content if he had stayed back in Clyde, OH and farmed their acreage. His vo-ag teacher in high school recognized John's potential and made a visit to his parents, encouraging them to send him to college. They needed little persuasion and allowed John to become the man he was. Years later John sent his vo-ag teacher a letter thanking him for his influence on his life and telling him of his many accomplishments, He was always considerate of others and always stayed in touch with friends and reatives,

My heartfelt condolences to dear John's family. He was my great mentor while I was studying at UW. He has left me the wisdom of teaching students and living an adventurous life. In reflection, I am grateful that he shared his very last chapter with me in Seattle. Rest in peace, Dr. Plant.
