Dr. David Rees Potts, 81, of Lafayette, passed away on December 12, 2023 at 2:55 p.m.
He was born April 25, 1942, in Champaign, IL, to the late Harry David and Evelyn Margaret (Frangen) Potts.
David graduated from Carlyle High School in 1959, where he was a National Merit Finalist. He earned his medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in 1967.
He proudly served in the United States Army from 1971 receiving an honorable discharge in 1973. On June 14, 1966, he married Patricia Ann Campbell in Miami, FL.
Dr. David R. Potts practiced medicine in Lafayette, IN and Louisville, KY for over 40 years.
He was a member of Phi Delta Epsilon Medical Fraternity, the international medical fraternity, and the Knights of Columbus. David enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, and reading.
Surviving with his wife, Patricia Ann Potts of Lafayette, are his children, Matthew Potts of Louisville, KY, Elizabeth (Jeff) Rosebraugh of Lafayette, Rebecca (Randy) Soriano of St. Louis, MO, Mark (Amy) Potts of Houston, TX, Daniel (Katie) Potts of Louisville, KY, Adam Potts of Lafayette, and Mary Potts of Louisville, KY, and a brother, Bruce Potts of Albuquerque, NM. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren, John (Jack) Potts, Lauren Potts, Michael Rosebraugh, Nicholas Rosebraugh, Katherine Rosebraugh, Timothy Soriano, Shawn Soriano, Rees Potts, William Potts, Charles Potts and Augustus Potts.
David was preceded in death by a son, James Potts, a daughter-in-law, Michelle Crosby Potts, and a granddaughter, Campbell Lou Potts.
Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 6:00 pm on Friday, December 15, 2023 at the Cathedral of St. Mary, Fr. Dennis O’Keeffe officiating. A private family burial will be held at St. Boniface Cemetery.
The family thanks the nurses and hospital staff at Franciscan Hospital for the great care given to David Potts and the compassion shown to him and his family.
