Douglas Wayne Mullin, 61, passed away peacefully at his home on November 4, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Doug was born on May 12, 1964, in Lafayette, Indiana, to the late Eileen and Wayne Mullin. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1983. Born with spina bifida, Doug faced life’s challenges with strength, humor, and determination. He refused to let anything hold him back and lived each day to the fullest.
Doug played for the Indiana Spinners basketball team for many years and later became the proud owner and operator of Midwest Brace and Limb, where he dedicated over 35 years to helping others live fuller, more mobile lives.
He was happiest when he was outdoors fishing, hunting, running his dogs, or hitting the trails in his RZR with friends. Of all his adventures, black bear hunting was his greatest thrill. Doug also loved tinkering in his garage, especially on his beloved ’67 Camaro and ’65 Chevy pickup.
Doug is survived by his soulmate of 25 years, Cheryl Mullin; his children Justin Baxter Smith(Megan), Keera laNae George(Timothy George), Justin Allan Smith,, Tyler, and Hunter Mullin; and his cherished grandchildren Lukas Smith, Keelynn Hunt (CJ Hunt), Sable George, Bodey Smith, Pearl Smith and Riley Smith. He is also survived by his sister Cheryl Mills (Jimmy) Mother in law- Marceta Pirtle and several nieces and nephews.
Doug’s circle of friends was wide, and many became like family to him. He loved deeply and was deeply loved in return.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eileen and Wayne Mullin, and his sister Bethany Mullin Father-in-law Allan Pirtle
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to honor Doug’s memory and the remarkable life he lived.
Doug will be remembered for his strength, kindness, and unwavering spirit and for the joy he brought to everyone who knew him.
