Following an extended illness, Dorothy Ellen Mulhaupt, 89, died on October 13, 2023, at home in Lafayette.
She was born in Lafayette to Myrtle and Paul Zollinger on April 3, 1934, and is preceded in death by husband, James F. Mulhaupt and son, Douglas J. Mulhaupt. She is survived by daughters Lorrie Tack (husband: Joe), Cheryl Conti (husband: Joe), daughter in law, Cindy Mulhaupt, seven grandchildren, Jessica Mulhaupt, Nicholas Mulhaupt, Andy Tack (wife: Laura), Suzi Tack Grant (husband: Robert), James Tack (wife: Cristina), Kaitlin Conti Smith (husband: Cody), Joey Conti (wife: Emma) and 13 beautiful great grandchildren.
Dottie grew up in Lafayette and graduated with the Jefferson High School class of 1952. She earned a BS in Speech Language Pathology from Purdue in 1956, later obtaining her Master’s Degree. She was a proud member of Pi Beta Phi sorority, where she made lifelong friendships. Following graduation Dottie and Jim were married and moved throughout the US while Jim served in the Air Force. Upon their return to Lafayette, they started their family and while Jim ran Mulhaupt’s, the family business, Dottie enjoyed her own successful career in Speech Pathology. They later moved to Arizona for semi-retirement, returning in 2008.
Throughout her life Dottie exuded a kind and positive attitude, enjoying many close friendships. As an accomplished potter and painter, she enjoyed a love of the arts. She will be remembered for her sense of humor, her love of nature and her “green thumb”. In recent years her most treasured moments were those spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
At Dottie’s request, a private family memorial is planned. Memorial contributions can be made to the Wea Volunteer Fire Department, 1700 Wea School Rd, Lafayette, IN 47909.
