Donna L. (Hartke) McCormick, 73, of Lafayette, passed away on Thursday, September 3, 2026 at St. Anthony Health Care.

She was born December 19, 1952, in Lafayette, IN, to the late Alfred and Esther (Ennen) Hartke.

Donna graduated from Wolcott High School in 1971 and earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from Purdue University.

On July 22, 1972, she married Bruce E. McCormick at St. James Lutheran Church in Reynolds. He preceded her in death on July 6, 2026.

Donna was a teacher for Tippecanoe School Corporation, teaching at both Mayflower Mill and Wea Ridge Elementary Schools for 40 years before retiring. While teaching she loved being a mentor to several young student teachers starting their career.

She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and Tri-Kappa Sorority. She volunteered many hours at Kids Closet and Feed The People.

Donna enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, reading, traveling, shopping, gardening, working in her yard and doing puzzles.

Surviving are two daughters, Stacy Stelter and Gretchen (Brice) Turpin both Lafayette, two brothers, Gene (Karen) Hartke of Lafayette and Bob Hartke of Bend, OR, and her identical twin sister, Diane (Scott) Crum of Ft Wayne, IN. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Coy and Sloane Stelter, Jordan (Ashley) Turpin, Kayla (Dalton) Justice, Audrey, and Myla Turpin as well as three great grandchildren, Easton, Lennon and Jaxson.

Donna was preceded in death by two sisters, Eldine Dahlenburg and Joyce German and a brother, Bill Hartke.

Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, September 9, 2026 at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Lafayette, IN 47909.

The funeral service will be at 10:00 am on Thursday, September 10, 2026 also at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel with Pastor Jeff Stedge officiating. Burial will follow at Mintonye Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in Donna’s name to TSC Nutrition Services and in the memo line please put “Angel Fund Donna McCormick”

Oh what a lovely lady! I’m so very sorry for your loss. I knew Bruce better (ornery wonderful stinker!) but learned quite a bit from her while practicing to teach. Humanity will miss her, such a lovely lit soul. I’m so sorry Stacy and family. The earth weeps, but the heavens delight.
