Donald Eugene Cain, 78, of West Lafayette passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at St. Anthony’s Health Care, where he has resided for the past 3 years due to poor health.
He was born May 30, 1945, in Chicago, IL to the late Francis Aaron and Rosalie (Wilson) Cain. He was a graduate of Southwestern High School. He enlisted in National Guard in 1961 and transferred to Active Duty Army in 1964, where he served 3 tours in Vietnam in 1966, 1967, and 1968. He was honorably discharged in 1969. On January 20, 1973, he married Sharon Loveridge in Delphi, and she survives.
Donald worked as a Corn Processor for Frito-Lay until his retirement in 2007. Following retirement, he and Sharon enjoyed traveling to 48 states, only missing Hawaii and Alaska. They also enjoyed traveling all over the United States watching their son, Aaron race monster trucks. Donald also liked to go fishing, camping at Broadview Campground in Colfax and at Stevenson’s Point in Monticello, and in his younger days he raced stock cars at Henry’s Speedway in Oxford. He was loved by all of the neighborhood kids. Above all, Donald cherished time spent with family, friends, and his cats.
Along with his wife, Sharon Cain, he is survived by 2 children, Daniel L. (Tammy) Roden and Aaron E. (Sonja) Cain; 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Rosalie; his son Roderick L. Roden, Jr.; and his uncle Merble E. Wilson (MIA Korea).
Memorial contributions in Donald’s name may be given to Truckin 4 Troops.
Visitation will be from 9:00 am until 11:00 am, Saturday, March 16, 2024, at Soller-Baker, Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., Lafayette, IN 47909 with Rev. Joseph Park Jr. officiating.
A graveside service for family and close friends will follow at 11:30 am at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens, 1718 W. 350 N., West Lafayette, IN 47906.
