Dennis Dean Fields, 68, of Lafayette, peacefully passed away early Friday morning, November 18, 2022 at his daughter’s home in Monticello.
He was born January 23, 1954, in Lafayette, to the late Gordon Bale and Mary Ann (McClean) Fields.
Dennis was a 1972 graduate of Lafayette Jefferson High School.
His marriage was to Peggy Grimes in 1974, and they later divorced.
Dennis was employed at Fairfield Manufacturing, General Foods for over 25 years before their closing in1989, and then retired from Purdue University as the Head of Fire and Safety Department.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Dayton, Knights of Pythias, was a Prophet with the Merou Grotto and an outstanding member of the National Hot Rod Association of America, (NHRA).
Dennis enjoyed working on and repairing cars for many years, was an avid fan and participator in drag racing. He loved going to the NHRA nationals every year. He also liked to attend car shows, loved all animals, especially his pets, and enjoyed mowing and tending to his yard.
Surviving are two daughters, Amber (Mark Rodgers) Holsclaw of Monticello, and Kayla Fields of Lafayette, two brothers, Ron (wife Dena) Fields of Brookston, and Dan Fields of Shadeland. Also surviving are two grandsons, Dylan Holsclaw, and Landon Rodgers.
Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until the time of the service at 2:00 pm on Monday, November 28, 2022 at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., Lafayette. Interment will follow at Johnson Cemetery, near Stockwell.
