Deborah “Debby” (Hart) Lindenlaub, 90, of West Lafayette, passed away on Easter Sunday, April 9, 2023 at University Place.
She was born January 4, 1933 in Worcester, MA, to the late Vernon and Eleanor (Stockwell) Hart.
Debby graduated from the Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse in 1956, of which she was very proud.
On August 17, 1957, she married John Charles Lindenlaub in Wolfeboro, NH. He preceded her in death on December 29, 2022.
Debby worked as a registered nurse, first at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, and then at Westminster Village in West Lafayette. After retirement, Debby and John were “founding residents” of University Place and lived there happily for nearly 20 years.
Throughout not only her marriage but her entire life, Debby exemplified the Wife of Noble Character as described in Proverbs 31 – virtuous, strong, and selfless. She survived polio as a child and never let it slow her down. As a homemaker while her children were young, she never tired of making much of her own wardrobe, being a careful shopper, feeding her family well, managing the household and actively supporting her children in school activities, including being a track mother (always bringing homemade cookies!). As a nurse, through church participation, and in many other ways, she generously gave to others.
She was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, where she was a member of the Altar Guild and sang in the choir. She was also a member of the Massachusetts General Hospital Alumni Association.
Debby enjoyed doing the Journal & Courier crossword puzzle every morning, as well as a variety of crafts – particularly sewing, cross-stitch, and knitting. While at University Place, she enjoyed writing and was a frequent contributor to the University Place newsletter, as well as to other resident programs/events. She was known throughout her life for her smile and positive energy.
Surviving are children, Brian Peter Lindenlaub (wife Sharon) of American Fork, UT; Mark Chalmers Lindenlaub (wife Peg) of Columbus, IN; Anne Howes Lindenlaub Bronson (husband James) of Western Springs, IL; and David Mathew Lindenlaub (wife Yolanda) of Osceola, IN, along with ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister Virginia Hart Ware of Stratford, CT.
Debby was preceded in death by a sister, Judith Hart Clark Curran, and a brother, Richard Vernon Hart.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Debby’s name may be made to St. John’s Episcopal Church, 600 Ferry St., Lafayette, IN 47901; the University Place Residents (UPR) Foundation, c/o University Place, 1700 Lindberg Road, West Lafayette, IN 47906; American Heart Association; or American Cancer Society.
Friends will be received from 2:00 -3:00 pm followed by a Celebration of Debby’s Life at 3:00 pm on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 600 Ferry St. Lafayette, IN 47901.
