Dean Stewart Johnson, 67, of Lafayette, passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2023 at Franciscan Health East.

He was born April 16, 1956, in Lafayette, to the late Delmar and Patricia (Childers) Johnson.

Dean graduated from Lafayette Jefferson High School class of 1974 and attended Purdue University.

On July 13, 2014, he married Jan Payne in Lafayette and she survives.

Dean started his career at National Homes, then to ALCOA and lastly went to work for Lafayette Pharmaceutical for several years before retiring as a Department Head for BSN after 16 years.

Dean was confirmed and baptized at St. Boniface Catholic Church. He was an avid woodworker and enjoyed turning bowls and pens on the lathe, fishing, cooking and gardening.

Surviving with his wife, Jan Payne Johnson are two brothers, Douglas (wife Joyceann Merrimann-Johnson) Johnson of Burnsville, MN, and Daniel (wife Tammy) Johnson of Homer, IL, a sister, Krystal Tipton of Owasso, OK, Jan’s children, John Payne, Jamie Payne and Justine (husband Alex) Hagen all of Lafayette, Jennifer (companion Tyler Tatlock) Payne of West Lafayette, and Jordan (husband Michael) Bagnoli of St Petersburg, FL. Also surviving are grandchildren, Harley, Kelly, Roman, Theodore, Eva, Charlotte and Winston and nieces and nephews, Scott, Noah, Courtney, Chelsea, Samantha and Allison.

Dean was preceded in death by a brother, Dale Johnson.

Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the time of the service at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at St. James Lutheran Church.

Memorial contributions may be made in Dean’s name to Tricia’s Doghouse, 20 S. 16th St Lafayette, IN 47905 or a charity of choice.
