David Lee Gulbransen Sr., 77, of Lafayette, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at University Place, after a brief battle with cancer.
He was born May 26, 1949, in Rensselaer, IN, to the late Dale Edward and Wanda Rose (Dudka) Gulbransen, of Wheatfield, IN.
David earned his master’s degree in literature from Indiana University, as well as a clinical doctorate as a Reading Specialist. He worked as a Food Stamp Supervisor for the State of Indiana for over thirty-five years before retiring in 2010.
His marriage was to Anne Berlin, and she survives.
David was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church. He was a devoted, present, and loving husband, father, and grandfather, and he will be greatly missed. His favorite hobbies were music, woodworking, and spending time with his family. He played the drums in several bands throughout his life and spent the majority of his time during retirement in his workshop, creating furniture for his family and friends.
Surviving with his wife, Anne Gulbransen of Lafayette, are children, David (Krystyna Ryan) Gulbransen, Jr. of River Forest, IL, Mary Anne (Chris Pullen) Gulbransen of Lafayette, Matthew Quince of Portland, OR; and siblings, Ed (Joan) Gulbransen of Fairborn, OH, Patty (Rex) Welsh of Anderson, Don (Mary) Gulbransen of Valparaiso, and Mary (Dave) Whitaker of Wheatfield. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Ruth, Eva, Clare, Henry, and Aubrey.
Visitation will be from 10:30 am until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11:30 am on July 28, 2026, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 1916 Meharry Street, Lafayette, IN. Burial will follow at St. Boniface Cemetery in Lafayette, IN.
