David B. Locks, 70, of Dayton, IN, passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2025 at IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette, IN.
He was born December 16, 1954, in Lafayette, IN, to Byrl and Vivian (Green) Locks. David was a graduate of North White High School in Monon, IN, and earned his Bachelor’s Degree at Purdue University in 1987. On June 11, 1977, he married Penny (Zarse) Schauer at the United Methodist Church in Reynolds, IN. David was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving during the Vietnam War, and the Army National Guard. David worked as a Quality Engineer for Subaru of Indiana Automotive for 33 years until his retirement in March 2022. He was a member of Gathering Point Church in Dayton, IN.
David was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved His God, his wife, his family, his church community and his country; and was a friend to all and loved by many. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Penny Locks of Dayton, daughters: Vicki (Rick) Ruppert; Sandra (Matt) Schmunk; Dana (Jason) White; grandchildren: Melissa, Tristan, Jenna, Ethan, Sadie, and Michael; great grandchildren: Franklin, Parker, and Cooper; his sister Karen Robinson; and numerous nieces and nephews. David was preceded in death by his parents, Byrl and Vivian Locks; and father- and mother-in-law, Lester and Phyllis Zarse.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am until time of service at 12:00 pm, Friday, August 15, 2025, at Gathering Point Church, 7201 Wesleyan Dr, Dayton, IN 47941 with Pastor Ryan VanMatre officiating.
