I just got the news today about Uncle Dan, and I am so deeply saddened. Just last week I was going through old pictures and found one with me sitting on his lap. I always loved being around Uncle Dan, he was always so warm and fun. Seems to me he always had a mischevious smile on his face that made me wonder, "What is he really thinking?"
Most often he was either picking my Mom and us kids up from the airport or driving us to the airport. I always remember him driving &too fast& according to my Mom. It was only about 70 m.p.h but that was crazy fast back then..Hahaha. Made Helen a nervous wreck and he loved it!
He even made time to see me out here in Vegas when he came out years ago.
What an incredible man. And what a amazing family you are. I only wish I could have made it back to spend more time with you all. All my thoughts are with you now.
Take care,
Susan
Thank you for calling yesterday to let us know about Dan. We are deeply saddened to hear about his passing. When I called out there around Christmas, I was glad I had the opportunity to speak with Dan for about 10 minutes. He sounded strong and in good spirits at that time. Barbara and I both enjoyed our visit to your home when you hosted us for lunch in March/April of 2007 when we were out in Indianapolis for the Men&s NCAA tournament. Barbara remembered our visit and said that Dan was really a nice man and she enjoyed talking to him while we were there. Over the last few years I got to know Steve very well and he has always been very accomodating to me and my sons, Chris and Brian who are big-time fisherman. My brother-in-law who has a house in the Miami area has also gotten to know Steve. And Steve always talked about your guys coming down to see him and it gave him the chance to to fishing with Dan which I know were special times for Steve and I am sure it was for Dan as well. Please extend my condolences to all of your children, Steve, Linda, Don, Jean, and Bruce. I am sure, Dan was a pillar of strength in all of their lives both growing up and as adults.
Unfortunaley, Barbara and I have plane reservations on Sunday for a ski trip to Calgary & Banff in Canada, so I will not be able to come there for the services for Dan. Please accept my apology. I tried calling you late this afternoon and left you a brief voicmail on your phone. I left a message for Steve on his cell phone as well.
You will be on our mind and in our prayers. With Warm Regards,
Bob and Barbara Martalus
You have our deepest sympathies.

When mom called me on Tuesday morning to tell me Uncle Dan had passed, I sat for a long while and remembered wonderful times with this man, who I used to think was the biggest person I had ever seen. His heart sure was. There were many times that the three of us (Susan and Brian included) were unsure of our place in the world. He always included us and reminded us that we were part of his family and that he would always be someone we could go to for advice and help. The Sunday&s that we spent barbecuing in the backyard have always been remembered fondly by all of us. In fact, when I spoke with Susan and Brian, those were our first memories of him. I wish I could be there with you celebrating his life. He surely had a good run. He will be remembered by me as a kind and caring man. A patriot whom I hope will be long aknowledged by his countryman. I know he loved you Aunt Rose, and he was a good dad, and grandpa to his kids and grandkids. I love you all and will be thinking of you in the days ahead. All my love Pam
We offer our sympathy on the passing of Dan. We always thought highly of Dan and he always kept us on an even keel. We will miss him at our Navy Club functions as well as a good friend. He was a classy person. We wish you the very best during this difficult time and we will keep you and your family in our prayers.

I didn&t know Mr. Roadruck that well because he didn&t talk much but when he did, you were smart to listen to him. An American who served his country and then came home and went about his work and raising a family. They truly are the "Greatest Generation" and the least we can do, is make this country the great nation that they fought and sacrificed to preserve.
Our thoughts are with you.
With sincerest condolences,
Dan & Karen(Warwick) Smith
My thoughts will be with you, Time has passed so fast, as we age and looking back I have realized how long I knew Mr.Dan. Growing up with Bruce and Don we rode our bikes to school together at Highland GRADE School and {STICK}and myself left our mark at Laf Jeff!! We knew that there was a watchful eye on us at all times and was reminded by our fathers at dinner each night!! How they knew that we may be up to something is still a mistery, with a family of my own I know how great of a father and man he was for that reason.
As well he was a hard working man,my father spent many days working with him at vulcan and they had a good friendship.May he rest in peace.God be with you.
Thanking of you all Greg Baker &family
Sorry to hear about Dan&s passing. Our thoughts & prayers are with you all.
