Cora Rose Garrett, 77, of Lafayette, was called to her Heavely home, on Sunday, May 24, 2026, with her family by her side.
She was born October 2, 1948, in Lafayette to the late John and Frances (Kearney) Barton. She attended St. Ann School and was a graduate of Central Catholic High School. On January 3, 1970, she married Michael Glenn Garrett at St. Ann’s Catholic Church. Michael preceded her in death on April 7, 2013.
Cora was a proud wife and mother. Outside of the home, she was very proud to work at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Housekeeping, as well
she enjoyed working with the Headstart Program as a teacher and a bus driver and she also worked at Purdue University.
A devout and proud Catholic, Cora was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church & Shrine since childhood. She was also a member of a local bowling league and the “Red Rollers” Competitive Bowling team, bowling her way across the United States, including a competition trip to Las Vegas.
Aside from attending Mass and bowling, Cora loved to play Bingo at Rookie’s Bar and Grill where she was known as “Mama G” and was almost guaranteed to win every night.
She is survived by 2 children, Richard E. (Tammy Duncan) Garrett and Michael Scott Garrett, both of Lafayette; 4 grandchildren, Blake, Austin, Hanna, and Emma Garrett; 3 siblings, Marilyn L. Snapp, Janie (Mike) Farrell, and John (Linda) Barton; her caregiver, Susan Marchand; and her fur baby companion, Fiona Chihuahua.
Along with her husband, Michael and her parents, John Henry and Frances Eillen (Kearney) Barton, she was preceded in death by 2 sons, Dennis DuWayne Garrett and Robert Glenn Garrett; and 2 sisters, Madonna M. Mikulaj and Lois Ann Hanthorn.
Memorial contributions in Cora’s name may be given to St. Ann Catholic Church & Shrine.
