Clifford M. Dewey Jr., 88, of Lafayette, formerly of Attica, died at 1:58 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at St. Elizabeth East Emergency Room from injuries sustained in an auto accident.
He was born Aug. 30, 1922, in Lafayette, to the late Clifford M. and Emma G. Hilt Dewey Sr. He attended Lafayette Jefferson High School.
On May 16, 1940, he married May S. Rawlings, she died Nov. 26, 1978. He then married Mary E. Hurst on April 23, 1979. She died in 2009.
Mr. Dewey was a delivery driver for Coca Cola for 43 years before retiring in 1979.
He was a member of the Eagles Lodge and enjoyed fishing, working in the yard and flowers.
Surviving are two sons Donald D. Dewey (wife: Inez) of Levenworth and Clifford M. Dewey III (wife: Pamela) of West Lafayette; five daughters, Donna Bowsman (husband: Walt) of Stockwell, Joanne Scott (husband: Terry), Dianna Sparger (husband: Phil), Peggy Coddington (husband: Bruce), all of Lafayette, and Debra Becklehimer (husband: Dan) of Dayton; three stepsons, Bob Hurst of California, George Hurst of Wyoming and John Hurst of Indianapolis; and a stepdaughter, Mary Bouldin of Tennessee.
Also surviving are 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son Johnny Dewey, a brother, William Dewey, and 2 sisters, Betty and Mary Dewey.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today June 2, 2011, at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., with a funeral there at 2:30 p.m. Friday, June 3, 2011, with Pastor&s Tom Camp and Bob Elness officiating. Burial at Spring Vale Cemetery.
