Claire M. Windler, 77, of Lafayette, died at 9:25 p.m. Monday, April 11, 2011, at St. Mary Health Care.
She was born May 1, 1933, in Dunnington, and was the daughter of the late Fred and Estella Steinmetz Brouillette. She graduated from Freeland Park High School.
Her marriage was to John “Jack” Windler. They later divorced.
Mrs. Windler retired in 1993 from Purdue University, where she was a secretary.
She was a member of St. Mary Cathedral and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and tending her flowers.
Surviving are three sons, Keith Windler (wife: Carol) of Boswell, Randy Windler (wife: Rosemary) of Lantana, Texas, Don Windler (wife: Ginny) of Lafayette; five daughters, Deb Wright (husband: Steve) of West Lafayette, Cindy Miller (husband: Dave) of Phoenix, Ariz., Pam Lane (husband: Tom) of Danville, Ill., Teri Leuck (husband: Mike) of Spring, Texas and Denise Feehan (husband: Charlie) of Alpharetta, Ga.; three sisters, Leah Albregts of West Lafayette, Anne Scherer of Fowler and Janet Metzinger of Brevard, N.C.
Also surviving are 22 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Dorothy Farrell and Rita Goetz; a brother, Don Brouillette; and a close companion, Les Baumgartner.
Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 17, 2011, with Rosary service at 4:45 pm at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., Lafayette, IN 47909 with funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 18, 2011, at St. Mary Cathedral, 1207 Columbia St., Lafayette, IN 47901 with Fr. Ambrose Ziegler officiating. Burial will follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens. Babysiting for her children when I was in high school, visiting at family reunions, weddings, and church dinners. She was always so kind, friendly,and had such a beautiful smile. Claire was one on my nearest and dearest friends for many years. We worked together in the political science dept. at Purdue for approx. ten years. Then after she retired, we&d get together for lunches and just have lots of laughs. She was a beautiful person, inside and out and I&ll always cherish those precious memories I have of her.
