Loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Claire L. (Cadwallader) Stout, 79, of Monticello, formerly of Lafayette and Brookston, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 14, 2024 at Monticello Health Care in Monticello, with family by her side.
She was the 9th of 12 children, born on October 16, 1944, in Lafayette to the late Aldia and Emma (Hicks) Cadwallader. She was a graduate of Southwestern High School and earned her Medical Assisting degree from Thompson Institute in Harrisburg, PA.
Claire retired from IU Health Arnett, Greenbush Street Lab, where she worked for many years as a phlebotomist. She loved her work and was adored by co-workers and patients alike for her genuine care, kindness and gentle demeanor. She enjoyed reading and tending to her flower gardens. She was also an avid music lover and could often be found listening and singing along to her favorite classic country songs. She was an accomplished musician, playing the bass and rhythm guitars, and was a beautiful singer. Claire was also passionate about serving and was happiest when volunteering, whether it be with the church, day care centers, or simply assisting her neighbors. She was an amazing cook and was known to whip up a perfect batch of potato soup in 20 minutes. She could also make the best homemade egg noodles you would ever taste.
She was blessed with 5 children: Rita (John) Kirkendall, Carla (Glen) Ratcliff, Jim Stout, Donald E. (Adela) Stidham, and Mechelle Corwin; 9 grandchildren: Maggie, Jack, Braeden, Jessica, John, Chad, Adam, Shane, and Zachrie; and 9 great-grandchildren: Arlo, Brentley, Olive, Rileigh, Haylie, Maddison, Kylee, Mason, and Sean, all surviving.
Along with her parents, Aldia and Emma Cadwallader, she was preceded by a number of her brothers and sisters, as well as her granddaughter, Courtney Jean.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the physicians, nurses and staff of Monticello Health Care for the outstanding care, skill, dedication, and compassion they provided Claire during the final years of her life.
