Christopher A. Amos, 41, of Lafayette, died at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2011, in his residence.
He was born June 9, 1970, in Lafayette, to John A. and Barbara A. Mourning Amos. He attended Lafayette Christian School and graduated from Harrison High School in 1988.
Mr. Amos was a member of Federated Church, Sons of American Legion. As a youth he volunteered for Habitat For Humanity and Feast of Hunters Moon.
On Oct. 16,1993, he married Kristel L. Hazelgrove.
Mr. Amos was a self-employed heavy equipment operator having driven for Stitchter Trucking, McDaniel Transportation, Petroleum Express, Bailey Trucking, Lauramie Excavating and Byers Trucking . He currently was employed at Lafayette Bottle Gas.
He enjoyed the outdoors, scuba diving, boating and fishing. He was a participant in the annual Wabash River Fest canoe race.
Surviving are his parents, John and Barbara A. Amos, of Lafayette; a daughter, Emma R. Amos and a son, Noah C. Amos, both of Lafayette; and one sister, Vicki A. Pearl (husband: Jim) of West Lafayette.Grandmother-Maria D. Mourning of Lafayette,Uncle Bill & Jenny Mourning of Terre Verde,FL.
Also surviving are a niece, Paige A. Pearl of West Lafayette, and his children?s mother, Kristel L. Hazelgrove Amos. Preceded in death by aunt, Donna Conard, and cousins, Colby Mourning Kesoyan and Tyler Mourning.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today, July 7, 2011, at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, with service there at 1 p.m. Friday, with the Rev. Dr. Gary Reif, officiating. Burial at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.

We were in Lafayette & Delphi this past week-end and went by your house. When we got back home, I usually check the Lafayette paper and found your Son&s Obituary. We are very sorry to hear this as he was so young. Our youngest daughter is 42.

I know well that there are few words that can salve the soul and offer true comfort at this time. Chris stopped by my house after Mom&s service and he acknowledged something that I will never forget. He smiled, shook my hand, gripped my shoulder and said, ""Man, it is so good to see you guys."" In that moment I felt a peace, free from the grief of loss. We talked about his Dad, Uncle Jack. Why he&s a great man and how he stays in such good shape. Gets up early, prays and reads the Bible every day. I trusted that God would see me through and he put Chris, along with other family members and friends, in my path to do it.

Keep getting up early, keep praying and keep reading your Bible.

You have my deepest condolences and will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.

My deepest sympathy for your loss! Christopher was a very dear friend who I thought of as a brother! He will be deeply missed!!

There are many things in this world that defy our understanding, and as hard as we try, the passing of someone so young and special is difficult to accept. We can only take comfort in our memories of Chris, and in knowing that he was a good man who loved his family. Though we did not get the chance to see him often, when we did he always had a big smile on his face and kind words to say. Chris will be dearly missed, and words cannot adequately express our deepest sympathy.
