Chris Davis, 65, died at his home on Sunday evening, Oct. 1, 2023, surrounded by the family members who had been providing hospice care.
Chris spent his final days in front of the television watching his beloved Chicago Cubs (lose!) and watching Purdue football. Boiler Up! Chris also was an avid race fan and had some memorable times over the years attending races at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
He loved gardening, being outdoors and camping. He was happiest when he was in his boat fishing with pals and grandkids.
Chris had recently retired from his career as a machinist. Earlier he owned and operated Auto Detailer and also worked as a locksmith.
He was born in Lafayette and lived his entire life in the Lafayette area. His childhood was spent in Westpoint. He was in the first graduating class at McCutcheon High School.
Chris was known for being an all-around good guy and great friend, but he was also known for being accident prone. Most of the incidents were funny but he was not amused when he was teased about being run over by a school bus right outside his elementary school.
He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife, Kelly (Dodds), and daughters Kati Davis (Matthew Griggs) of West Lafayette, JoAnna Kotrba (Doug Schouten), of Lakewood, Calif., and Jenna Kotrba (Doug Thompson) of Peterborough, NH. He also is survived by grandchildren Brooks and Evelyn Thompson and Sadie and Lucy Schouten; a brother, Jack Davis of Gulf Shores, Ala., and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack Davis and Marguerite Johnson (Myke Fassnacht).
Visitation will be at Soller-Baker Funeral Home, 400 Twyckenham Blvd. in Lafayette, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2023 followed by funeral service at 6:30pm.
In lieu of flowers please consider donating to Loving Heart Animal Shelter, 512 Veterans Memorial Parkway East, Lafayette, IN 47905.
