Charles R. Drysdale, 87, of Lafayette, died at 11:10 a.m. Sunday, September 23, 2012, at his home.
He was born July 12, 1925, in Altamont, IL, to the late John F. and Mary Gillespie Drysdale.
He graduated from Altamont High School in Altamont, IL in 1943 and enlisted and served in the United States Marine Corps from Sept. 18, 1943 to July 26, 1945. On August 23, 1947 he married Jean Ann Elser at St Boniface Catholic Church and she survives. Charlie Drysdale worked for the former Fauber Construction Co. for 42 years. He Owned and Operated the Charles R. Drysdale Agency for 20 years, Blacktopping driveways and small jobs all over Tippecanoe County
and surrounding towns. Charlie was the Superintendant
of The Tippecanoe County Highway Dept. for 3 years, Road Supt. for the Town Of Shadeland for 10 years. A member of the Marine Corps League in Frankfort, and a member of the American Legion post 11, VFW, Forty/Eight Voiture, DAV, Knights of Columbus, Century Club Central Catholic High School, and a member of St Lawrence Catholic Church.
Surviving along with his wife are two daughters, Deborah K. (husband:Timothy) Wolf, of Martinsville and Cindy S. (husband:John T.) Vlahogeorge, of West Lafayette; a son, Daniel L. (wife: Celeste) Drysdale, of Lafayette; a sister, Ame (husband: Paul Spider) Fields, of Lafayette; a sister-in-law, Camilla (husband: Francis) Brock, of Frankfort; nine grandchildren, Ryan (wife: Laura) Wolf, Trisha (husband: LaBradford) Smith, Trent Wolf, T.J. Wolf, Liz (fiancé: Andrew Eaton) Drysdale, Reed Drysdale, Amy (husband: Bob) Hockema, Mike Vlahogeorge and Matt Vlahogeorge; nine great-grandchildren, Rhys and Izzie Wolf, Lucca, Eric and Nick Smith,Tyler and Ryleigh Neal, and Charlie and Henry Hockema.
He was preceded in death by one brother, John (Jack) Drysdale, and four sisters Sophia Dorman, Madonna Campton, Mildred Edmundson and Anna Drysdale.
Visitation will be Friday 5 to 8 p.m. September 28, 2012, at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel. Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday with visitation 30 minutes prior to the mass at St. Lawrence Catholic Church; Fr. Daniel Gartland officiating. Graveside service at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary Cemetery with military honors.
