Charles William McCormick, 82, of Lafayette, passed away at 8:44 AM, Tuesday, October 25, at his residence surrounded by his children.
He was born March 21, 1929, in Veedersburg, Indiana, the son of Donald P. and Florence H. McCormick. He lived while growing up in Veedersburg, Stone Bluff, Bedford, and Frankfort, Indiana. He graduated from Frankfort High School in 1947. Mr. McCormick served in the Army from 1947 until 1950 where he served for a time in the Philippines and was a weapon specialist and radio operator. He returned to Frankfort after his Army service and married Retha L. Harshman on December 15, 1951. The couple moved to Lafayette in 1952.
Mr. McCormick went to work for the U.S. Postal Service in 1954 and retired from there in 1985 after thirty-years of service. He was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church, the National Association of Postal Supervisors, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, American Legion, and Lions Club. He enjoyed camping with his wife, Retha, and the two were lifetime members of the Good Sam RV Club. He also enjoyed golfing and festivals. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and family.
Surviving is a sister, Frances, of Longview, TX. Also surviving are a son, D. Scott (wife: Gail) of Lafayette; and two daughters, Christine Clugh-Thomas (husband: Phil) of Lafayette and Emily Moyer (husband: Jim) of Delphi.
Mr. McCormick is survived by 13 grandchildren: Kelly Tutin (husband: Jamie) of Brownsburg, IN; Kasey McCormick and Molly Cieslikowski (husband: Aaron) both of Nashville, TN; Connor S. McCormick, Misty N. Clugh, R. Andrew Clugh (wife: Lizzie), Patrick M. Clugh all of Lafayette; Abbie K. Moyer and Anna L. Moyer, both of Delphi, IN. Also Kristi Thomas of Texas, Michael Thomas (wife: Krista) of Washington, Brianne Thomas of Carmel, IN and Kaleena Thomas of Lafayette. and four great-grandchildren: Eden G. Clugh of Lafayette and Carter P. Tutin of Brownsburg, IN and Zoe and Emma Thomas of Washington state.
Mr. McCormick was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Retha, and his granddaughter Maggie Mae McCormick.
Friends and family may call at Soller-Baker Funeral Home, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., Lafayette, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday, October 27. Funeral services will also be at Soller-Baker, Twyckenham Chapel, at 10:00 AM Friday, October 28, with internment at Tippecanoe Memory Garden in West Lafayette immediately following.
