Charlene R. Williams, 89, of Lafayette died Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at St. Anthony Healthcare of Lafayette with her son by her side.
She was born October 23, 1929 in Fowler to the late Charlie Williams and Doris Ruth Hale. She was a graduate of Fowler High School and worked as a Buyer for Loeb’s Department Store and retired as a Telephone Operator from Purdue University. Upon her retirement, Charlene worked as the Director of Distribution for the Food Pantry for Seeds of Hope Ministries.
Charlene LOVED jewelry and had an enormous collection. She also loved to help people and enjoyed giving to those in need. Her shoulder was excellent for people to lean on and to share their problems and Charlene was the best at helping them solve those problems. She was the epitome of kindness and was well loved in the community as such to commemorate her 80th birthday, the Indiana General Assembly presented her with a certificate.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas Freeman; son, Michael Weaver of Chicago; brother, Warren Williams of Peru; and sister, Freda Fuller of Boston, MA.
Visitation will be from 2:30 pm until time of service at 3:30 pm, Sunday, December 23, 2018 at Soller-Baker Funeral Home, Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd, Lafayette, IN 47909 with Rev. George Bacon officiating.
Interment will follow at Spring Vale Cemetery, 2580 Schuyler Avenue, Lafayette.
Following interment friends and family are invited to a reception at the St. John Pavilion, 111 6th street, Lafayette (next to The Long Center).
