Carolyn Burdett, 72, of Lafayette, passed away on Friday, October 20, 2023 at Franciscan Health East.

She was born January 27, 1951, in Akron, OH, to the late James Holmes Sr and Creasie (Tucker) Holmes Portis.

After graduating from high school Carolyn attended business college and went on to work for Green Giant, Eli Lilly and Arconic.

On October 15, 1983, she married Terry Lee Burdett and he survives.

She was a member of Second Baptist Church, The Mary L. Club and the US Steel Workers Association.

Carolyn enjoyed science fiction, especially Star Trek and collecting its memorabilia, going to music concerts and listening to live music as well as traveling.

Surviving with her husband, Terry Lee Burdett, is a son, Darnell Holmes, two daughters, Jennifer (husband Antonio) Terrell and Tara Burdett all residing in Lafayette. Siblings, Gerald Alexander of TX, Robert Ross of IN, Ben (wife Sherri) Portis of IN, Felice Stanford of IN, Cheryl (husband Curtis) Pearson of IN and Victoria Ward of IN. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Dante Marris, Kalasia Wright-Holmes, Xavier Terrell and Zayvion Jones along with several nieces and nephews.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her father, James H. Holmes, mother, Creasie (husband James) Portis, two brothers, James “Lump” Holmes, Jr. and Robin Ross, as well as a sister, Crystal Portis.

Visitation will be from 12:30pm until the time of the service at 1:30 pm on Thursday, November 2, 2023 at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Lafayette, IN 47909. Burial will follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens in West Lafayette, IN.
