Carol Ann (Anderson) Hainje, 84, of Lafayette, Indiana, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2026.
Carol was born on February 26, 1942, in Dayton, Indiana, to Charles F. Anderson and Nora Jane (Bradley) Anderson. She graduated from Dayton High School in 1960.
On August 25, 1961, she married the love of her life, Robert Hainje. Together they shared nearly 65 years of marriage, building a life centered on love, family, and unwavering devotion. Robert survives her.
Carol spent over 20 years working at Purdue University, Blocks, Lazarus, and Macy’s as an office assistant and manager. She was a proud member of Eastern Star and served as a Grand Chairman of Rainbow.
Above all, Carol’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her three children: Lisa (Hainje) Bromer (Dave), Diana (Hainje) Vissering (Brad), and Robert Hainje II (Julie); seven grandchildren: Ashley, Craig, Bethany, Christopher, Carrie, Brooke, and Breann; eight great-grandchildren: Abigail, Briar, Stetson, Colton, Boston, Bexley, Nora, and Bellamey; brother Charles Anderson; and sisters in-law Marjorie (Schwartz) Sinclair and Betty Bogan.
Carol devoted her life wholeheartedly to her children and grandchildren, who were always her number one priority. She was their source of encouragement, wisdom, and unconditional love. Whether attending school programs, cheering from the sidelines, or offering a listening ear, she was fully present in their lives. She cherished summers spent helping with 4-H projects and she took immense pride in each ribbon earned and goal accomplished. Nothing brought her greater happiness than seeing her family succeed and grow. Her home was the heart of the family. She found joy in the simple, meaningful moments: family dinners, birthday celebrations, and spontaneous visits from her grandchildren. She also shared a very special bond with her cousins, Ron, Jerry, Lee, and Margaret.
She had a true gift for landscaping and gardening. Her yard was always beautifully maintained and filled with vibrant flowers. Christmas was her favorite time of year. She loved decorating her home, wrapping gifts, and gathering her family close during the holidays. She also enjoyed traveling to Lake Buena Vista, Florida and visiting Walt Disney World during the winter months. Carol will be remembered for her warmth, her dedication to those she loved, and her wonderful sense of humor that brought joy to her family and to so many.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles F. Anderson and Nora Jane (Bradley) Anderson; her in-laws, Albert Hainje and Alberta (Plantenga) Hainje; her sister, Nancy Anderson; her sister-in-law, Janet (Loft) Anderson; and her brother-in-law Bob Schwartz.
A graveside funeral service for family and friends will be held at Dayton Cemetery in Dayton, Indiana on Monday, March 9th at 2:00 p.m. All who wish to attend are welcome.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Carol’s memory to Community Cancer Network at www.communitycancernetwork.net.
Carol’s legacy of love and family will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
