Carl Lester Delaney, 79, passed away at 10:55 pm at Signature Healthcare in Lafayette. During the past 4 ½ years, Carl had endured several health issues including Follicular Lymphoma, falls/fractures, Dementia and Covid. He grew up in Independence, Indiana and graduated from Pine Village High School in 1959. His parents were Benjamin Harrison Delaney and Mary Elizabeth Risk Delaney.
He graduated from Purdue University with a BS in Mechanical Engineering (1963) and retired from Harrison Steel Castings after 34 years. In his retirement, he worked at Caterpillar, Lowe’s, and Ace Hardware. A skilled craftsman in carpentry, woodworking, automobile mechanics and blacksmithing, he volunteered as a blacksmith for many years at the Feast of the Hunter’s Moon.
In 1961 he married Katherine Marie Knowlton in Walkerton, Indiana, sharing 59 years of marriage. He is survived by his wife, Katherine (Kathy); three children, Dawn (husband, Thomas) Beutner of Annandale, Virginia; Scott of Lafayette; and Eric (wife, Amy Wharton Delaney) of Portland Oregon and 5 grandchildren: Katherine & John Beutner, Corwin Delaney, and Jacob & Sarah Delaney. Due to the Covid situation, a Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date. Private interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Walkerton, Indiana.
