Byron E. McDole, 93
Byron E. McDole, 93, of Lafayette, died at 7:12 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2010, at Clarian Arnett Hospital in Lafayette.
Born May 10, 1916, in Tippecanoe County, he was the son of the late Everette E. and Dollie Gibson McDole. He graduated from Dayton High School in 1934.
On Sept. 5, 1942, he married Mildred G. Platt in Lafayette, and she survives.
Mr. McDole has been involved in the construction business his entire life, building several homes, and also worked at VonTobel Lumber Company for 18 years, retiring in 1999.
He was a member of Heritage United Methodist Church, and was active in four churches. He was a member of the Tippecanoe Masonic Lodge 492 for 70 years and was a three-time past master. He was also a member of the High Twelve Club and Order of the Eastern Star Hope Chapter 5. With his involvement in Boy Scouts, he earned the Silver Beaver Award.
He was a Purdue University sports fan, and enjoyed playing euchre and spending time with his family and at his church.
Surviving with his wife are three sons, Gary W. McDole (wife: Patsy) and Harry L. McDole (wife: Barbara), both of Lafayette, and Jerry A. McDole (wife: Jeanne) of Streetsboro, Ohio; and a daughter, Diane S. Troxel (husband: Richard) of Lafayette.
Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Byron was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Floyd, Wilbur, Dwight and Dick McDole; and 6 sisters, Louise Helmond, Elsie Emerson, Eleanor Reagan, Evelyn Gates, Shirley Uyal, and his twin sister, Beryl Strum.
Visitation 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010, at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., Lafayette, IN 47909, with 7 p.m. Masonic service. Funeral service 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 29, 2010, at Heritage United Methodist Church, 3111 N. County Road 350 East, Lafayette, IN 47909, with Pastor Bruce Mowery officiating. often think of the time that we spent with you and him. He was a real gentleman and a very nice man. His love for the members of his family, coupled with their love for him was obvious. He will be deeply missed by all.

I am so saddened to hear of Byron&s passing. Bob Neiworth called me today with the news and I have thought about you and your family all day. I know that Clara Mae would have been saddened as well to hear of his death and she, and Ray, thought the world of both of you. I enjoyed being with you and Byron at High 12 when I visited Indiana and he will be missed. I thought he was a wonderful, gentle, gentleman who was gracious and charming to me over the years. I am truly saddened by the passing of your loved one. I worked with Byron at Von-Tobels and lived on 22nd street not far from Byron for several years. Byron was AWESOME and a TRUE friend, I enjoyed working with and talking with him very much, he was a great example of a Christian Man and Brother. Julie and I are SO SORRY to see this news of Byron passing. Byron was a hero of ours...and has been for many years! In our opinion he epitomized what it meant to be a GOOD MAN, a DECENT and HONEST MAN, and a Loving Husband and Father.
Lafayette Indiana will be a lesser place because of Byron&s passing!
He will be greatly missed by so many!

Sorry to hear of your loss. Hoosier was a special man that lived a full life. I will always remember the fun times as a child going over to Grandma MacMurdo&s house when Hoosier and his family would come to visit. Also, the times we went to Indiana. You are all in our prayers.

I&m very sorry for your loss. Uncle Byron was a great man. He worked very hard to make the world he lived in a better place for his family, his community and God and his success was inspiring. He will be fondly remembered.

Sorry to miss the service for my last Uncle. Many times when my name came up people would ask what relation are you to Byron. Then they would always tell me what a great person he is. This happend here in Florida this week when I was talking with Kay Riley who used to clean the apartments at pheasent run when Byron was done with construction. Before Mom passed away she said she had outlived all her friends so she just wanted to go to the church, this won&t be the case with Byron He impacted people in his life and Sollar Baker will be packed. Wish I were there to visit with my cousins again. I will be thinking of you all. God Bless Dave McDole
