Tony, I am so incredibly sorry for your loss, and I am so sorry it has taken months for me to find out about the huge loss in you and your family's lives. No words can be said to a parent who loses a child. I hope you and your family has found some sort of peace knowing she is safe with the Lord. Until we meet again, my friend.

Joni Heide left a message on March 1, 2020:
To the entire Schabel family, Words escape me. When I heard of Brea's passing, my heart was so broken and devastated. I thought that I may be be able to find some words to share with you that were said or written to me that comforted me when my son Cole passed 7 months ago in a seemingly exact same way, leaving his 2 beautiful girls behind. But I realized that each persons pain is so very personal that I may not find the right thing to say that may help. I can only share what helped me in my darkest hours and what continues to sustain me today. I know that the Schabel family walks with Christ every step of the way. I know you have comfort in Christ. I pray that you have been blessed with the grace of God's unconditional love for you all, as I was, that He has shown you during the darkest time, that Brea is alive in His light, peace, and love, and is with you always. I have learned that I still have a relationship with my son. It is just a different relationship. A spiritual relationship, as strong as it ever was. Although I miss his physical presence and my heart aches at times for his touch, I am blessed by his love and guidance from afar. I hold him dear in my heart and walk with him throughout the day. May you find peace, love, and comfort. Joni

Tony and Cara and family, With my heart aching for you all, I watched the beautiful snow fall all day the 26th. And as I watched it, even filmed it in slow motion, I thanked God for how He is the great comforter. The white snow reminding me of the believers new life in Jesus; life [zoe] that begins on the this earth [the moment one first believes]. Eternal life with Jesus. Praying fervently that you will feel God’s loving arms around you as you cling to His truth and His promises. Praying you can say “it is well with my soul”. Love you much, Lori 1 Corinthians 13:12; Romans 8:37-39; Hebrews 6:19; 1 John 5:4; and on and on...

Brea went to school with my late son, Jordan Hicks. I remember her coming to his showing and sharing that they were in class together and what a nice guy he was. I so appreciated hearing that. I hope they have met up again. I am so sorry for your loss. One breath at a time is all you can do. Hugs!

Death is nothing at all, it does not count. I have only slipped away into the next room. Nothing has happened. Everything remains exactly as it was. I am I and you are you, and the old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged. Whatever we were to each other, that we are still. Call me by the old familiar name. Speak of me in the easy way which you always used. Put no difference into your tone

My neighborhood memory of Brea is a little girl bouncing her way along the cul-de-sac and later (when she was in high school) bringing me carnations when McCutcheon had their Mother's Day promotion. My heart is breaking for Tony, Cara, Jubs, Letty, and all who loved Brea! I find comfort with the fact that you are all strong believers. Jesus has his ever-loving arms around Brea right now!
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.
