Betty Ruth Williams-Surber, 86, of West Lafayette, IN went to be with our heavenly Father on Tuesday, February 13, 2024. She was born July 8, 1937, in Somerset, Kentucky to the late Howard and Susie (Calhoun) Hall.
Before moving to West Lafayette, Betty was a resident of Benton County for over 30 years where she and her daughter Susan worked side-by-side in the Williams Beauty Shoppe and the Oxford Flower Patch. Both of these businesses were in the Williams Building on the south side of the square in Oxford. The flower shop was where she gained her love of flowers. Betty could take a small hanging basket and make the flowers overflow to the point of being too large to hang on a single hook. Betty loved serving the community through both of the businesses. Betty was also well known for her cinnamon rolls. She used to make them for staff at hospitals and doctors’ offices she visited. It brought her great joy to share her passions. When someone was in need, Betty was always willing to take them in to help them get back on their feet. She was a very loving and giving person.
Surviving are 2 daughters, Sharon (Larry) Krebs and Susan Hawn. She also left behind 3 stepchildren and their families, whom she loved very much. Also surviving are 4 grandchildren, Sarah (Kevin) Silverthorne, Ryan (Lane) Grant, Seth (Austine) Grant, Ashlee (Jarrodd) Case; as well as 13 great-grandchildren, Michael, Luke, Abigail, Ashton, Dacey, Xander, Chesney, Reid, Carter, Lincoln, Kennedy, Kylin, and Lawson; and 1 great-great-grandchild, Xena. Surviving siblings include Lily (Tom) Swisher and Nola New.
Along with her parents, Betty was preceded in death by siblings Marie Clines, Dorothy Clines, Paul Hall, Jewell Dick, Avelene Anderson, Leslie Hall, and William Hall and 1 great-grandchild, Grace.
Memorial contributions in Betty’s name may be given to Natalie’s Second Chance No Kill Dog Shelter, 10 S. 16th Street, Lafayette, IN 47905.
