Betty L.. Peters

Betty L. “Billie” Peters, 85, of West Lafayette passed to be with her Lord on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012 at her residence. She was born Dec. 29, 1926, in Indianapolis to the late Frank and Freda Billeter.
She graduated from Shortridge High School in Indianapolis, attended Butler University during WWII, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority, and graduated with a bachelor?s degree from Purdue University in 1949. On Sep. 24, 1949 she married William J. Peters in Indianapolis, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 27, 2008. She worked with her husband at Schraders-Kokomo Inc. from 1960 to 1978, when they retired and sold the business.
Betty was an active member of Central Presbyterian Church, Caring Paws and All Star Greyhounds, as well as a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity. She enjoyed playing with the Dulcimer Gathering, and taking her rescue Greyhounds to nursing homes, schools, the IN Veterans? Home and Greyhound gatherings. Her caring, selfless attitude in all her endeavors was evident and appreciated by all she touched with her love and compassion.
Surviving are her children, Susan Peters Young (husband: John) of West Lafayette, William “”Joe”” J Peters Jr (wife: Dai) of West Lafayette, grand children, Hannah L Young of Indianapolis and Aaron J Young of Chicago, IL. Also surviving is a sister, Helen M Merrill of Saratoga Springs, UT. Betty was preceded in death by a sister, June Ringenberg.
Memorial service will be Sunday, Nov. 25, 3pm at Central Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Jeff Cover officiating.

Billie was such a kind, generous, and ethical person. Her virtues brought peace and good cheer to those around her. I knew her as a member of Caring Paws and valued her calm and dedicated presence in that group. She will be missed, but her spirit lives on in all persons and animals she touched through her giving and sweet nature. Best wishes to all of her family and friends as you navigate this transition.

On behalf of the Pets and Vets As Partners family, where Billie entrusted us with the care of several greyhounds over the years, I would like to express our deepest sympathies for your loss.
Mrs. Peters was a great lady, pet owner and friend of our practice, who will be greatly missed. I&m a better person and a better vet for having known Billie Peters and her dogs over the years. Though I cannot be at the service, know that my heart is with you today. I will always remember Billie fondly and try my best to be as selfless a person as she.

I knew Billie through The Dulcimer Gathering, and she did enjoy her dulcimer. Billie shared her music with many others, and we all benefited from her knowledge and love of the dulcimer.
I always looked forward to seeing Billie, her cheerful attitude and her beautiful smile when we played.
I remember one time when some of us played in downtown Lafayette on the street to get donations for her greyhound program. When we counted the donations at the end of the afternoon we had collected $80!

I will truly miss her.
