Betty J. Cornell, 86, of Lafayette, passed away on Monday, September 12, 2016 at Mulberry Health and Retirement. She was born December 28, 1929, in Ames, Iowa, to the late Ray and Cecilia Blanchard Kirts. Betty attended Battle Ground High School. On November 14,1948 she married Gordon G. Cornell and he passed away on May 9, 2015. Betty was a Homemaker and aslo worked along with her husband at the Filling Station and the restaurant that they owned for several years. Betty enjoyed working in her yard, garage sales on Fridays, going to the gambling boat, gardening and time spent with her family and grandchildren.
Surviving are children, Carolyn Lantz of Aurora, Phillip Cornell (Kay) of Lafayette, Randy Cornell (Rita) of Mulberry and Marty Cornell (Carol) of Lafayette; sisters, Barbara Burle, Virginia Mull and Glennadean Jeffries all of Lafayette; brothers, Charles Kirts (Carol) of Lafayette, Udell Kirts (Donna) and Robert Kirts (Barbara) both of Brookston and Jack Kirts (Rosemary) of Lafayette. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.Precede in death by six brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be from 1:30 until the time of the service at 2:30pm on Friday, September 16, 2016 with Pastor Dan Helms officiating. Burial will follow at Yorktown Cemetery. Family request memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society.
